Want a new color? You have two real options: paint or a vinyl color change wrap. Here is how we think about it, from a shop that does a lot of color changes on everything from Audis to a 1950 Mercury lead sled.
A wrap is reversible
This is the big one. A wrap goes over your factory paint and can be removed later. Change your mind, sell the car, or want to go back to stock for a show: it is an option. A respray is permanent, and on collectible or exotic cars, non-original paint can affect value.
Finishes paint cannot easily do
Satin, matte, brushed metal, carbon texture, chrome, color shift. Matte paint is notoriously hard to live with; a satin or matte wrap gives you the look with a surface you can actually maintain. The satin charcoal on our 1950 Mercury and the satin blue on a recent AMG G63 are good examples.
It protects what is underneath
The film takes the light scuffs and sun instead of your paint. When it comes off, the paint underneath has been sheltered the whole time.
When paint makes more sense
If the paint is already failing, peeling or has deep damage, a wrap will not hide it. Vinyl follows the surface, so bodywork needs to happen first. We will look at the car and tell you straight.
Our process
See our restyling and color change work. We help you pick the film, often with samples on the car, remove or work around trim and hardware where needed, and wrap panel by panel for clean edges. Come see film samples on your car at the shop.
